What MRI artifact is shown and how can it be fixed?

IMPROPER POSITIONING 

  • Can result in compression of breast tissue between the chest wall and center partition of the breast coil
  • As little breast tissue as possible should remain above the coil apertures 
  • High signal intensity in areas where breast tissue is adjacent to coil elements
  • Fix:
    • Technologist training to improve comfort with positioning of the breast
