INVASIVE LOBULAR CARCINOMA

  • 5-10% of breast cancers
  • Distinct from invasive ductal carcinoma
  • More often multicentric and bilateral (10-15%)
  • Loss of E-cadherin (biomarker) **
  • Cells of ILC often preserve the architecture of the ducts, which limits the sensitivity of detection using mammography
  • Mammo: “Shrinking breast” or reduced compressibility
  • US: ill-defined hypoechoic mass
